EdGate Correlation Services Enhances Mapping Tools for New Common Core Standard Identifiers

EdGate® Correlation Services today announced an expanded capability for mapping educational standards, including use of the soon-to-be-released Common Core identifiers. This additional capacity will be offered as part of the alignment services the company provides to publishers, school districts and content providers. As the leading company in the correlation of textbooks, films, digital content and many other types of content to state and Common Core standards, EdGate Correlation Services has focused on making it easy for clients to work with aligned content. Over the years, EdGate developed a Universally Unique Identifier ID (UUID) system that enables any user to easily identify every educational standard, as states have typically not established their own identifiers.

Educational organizations at the national level, recognizing the need to implement an industry-wide data identification system, are preparing to release official identifiers for the Common Core Standards. The National Governors Association (NGA) and the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) are making the release in cooperation with the authors of the Common Core standard. These organizations are also working on a corresponding XML rendition of the standards. Their effort is in conjunction with several other initiatives that are focused on providing educators with targeted instructional resources and data transfer in common formats. The goal of these initiatives is to enhance the use of aligned digital content in personalized learning.

The release of nationally-adopted Common Core Identifiers also will enable greater data sharing throughout the correlation process. As soon as the new identifiers are available, EdGate will include them with the standards data provided to clients. In addition, EdGate will use the EdGate Mapping Tool to associate any standard identifier with another identifier, making it much easier for a publisher to seamlessly integrate standard sets into
multiple systems. Examples include JES & Co’s Achievement Standard Network’s (ASN) URIs, state standard identifiers and other GUID identifier systems. The EdGate Mapping Tool will be an added service to any company needing mappings of standards and standard identifiers within their systems.
